Our Success Story

  • What an amazing day! We rented the Lucia 40 with Captain Richard. He made us feel so special and was a wonderful host. Would highly recommend anyone looking for a fun outing to spend some time on one of their vessels! We didn’t want to leave and want to do a sleep over trip next time! Thank you for such a beautiful day, Richard!

  • I first contacted Michael Zornes, aka “Captain Z” to purchase a sailboat during the summer of 2019. After speaking with him, it took me a minute or two to realize that Captain Z was a serious professional, very knowledgeable and obviously loved what he does. In Marine parlance, he was “squared away”.

Over the following months Captain Z acted as my Yacht Broker, Advisor, Project Manager, Mentor and Instructor. He exceeded every expectation I had of him and I developed a great respect for his professionalism, love of what he does so very well, attention to detail and humor. After refitting my Hanse 400e for several months where Captain Z acted as project manager, Odyssey was ready for sea trials.

In November, I flew to Saint Petersburg, Florida and met with Captain Z. At that time, I explained my goal of Sailing Odyssey across the Gulf of Mexico to its home port on the edge of America – Port Isabel, Texas. I’m a former Officer of Marines, Special Forces Team Commander, Firefighter and Flight Instructor with no real sailing experience. Mike’s job was getting me ready to captain my vessel across the Gulf of Mexico.

We both brought everything we had, to bear on achieving my audacious goal. I had absolute and unqualified trust in Mike’s judgement and although I had no idea if I was ready but Captain Z knew and that’s all that mattered. After 10 intensive training days, Captain Z determined that I was ready and he signed me off as a Captain.

I tied up in Port Isabel, Texas on Christmas Eve day, called Mike and thanked him for making my goal possible. Mike is a very knowledgeable Captain but his gift is his ability to impart that knowledge as an instructor. His gift, coupled with the things I have done that make me, me – is really what made things work. I don’t think you could have substituted either of us with any other person and achieved the same result.

    Thank you again, Captain Z!

  • I and my husband bought a 42 feet full keel sailboat 2 years ago having no prior experience sailing whatsoever. The learning curve was very steep. We consider ourselves extremely lucky because we met Captain Z within the first week we moved on the boat. We hired him to teach us sailing and he went above and beyond that task. Besides teaching us how to dock, motor, sail, navigate, anchor, read the weather and other nautical skills he helped to organize the boat, create various checklists, develop maintenance schedule, etc. With his guidance, we were able to start making our longer solo trips just a few months after we had purchased the boat and we went by ourselves as far as Dry Tortugas last November. He helped us to plan the route (including all plan B options along the way), inspected and helped to prepare the boat, gave advice on provisioning. He stayed in touch with us pretty much every day of that trip routing for our success and a success it was! Captain Z has a very pleasant personality, he is very patient, detail-oriented, and pays utmost attention to safety. Besides, – he is a lot of fun to be around! We hired him multiple times for daily lessons and for multi-day trips which all were totally enjoyable. He showed us many beautiful sailing destinations on the Florida West Coast and we can’t wait to have him on board for our upcoming trip to Bahamas.

  • Thank you James and Richard for helping move this purchase through. You certainly helped minimize the fears and stressors associated with the purchase of a boat located in a foreign country

    Best wishes?

  • Allie and I would like to thank you both for a great boat show day. Really appreciate all the time you guys spent with us. The stories and background of how you met and the James/Katy proposals and wedding and all the adventures! Just awesome! Been to a lot of boat shows and spoke with plenty of brokers, but you guys are above and beyond. Thanks for connecting us with tickets and VIP lounge. Mark – Allie particularly appreciated you taking the time to show her the exotic cars. Top Gear is one of her favorite shows. Hope you had a great show.

  • I/we have just completed selling my 42 ft catamaran. I worked exclusively with Capt. R Fachtmann during all phases of selling my boat. It was a pleasure to watch him work.

Positioning phase: R provided completive pricing information about similar boats. Based upon the time frame that I wanted the boat to sell in, we determined a price point to initially position the boat. His analysis and thoughts on market trends were spot on and highly useful

Marketing phase: R took complete photographs and drone overheads to completely describe the boat. They were all professionally done. All of the pic?s and video were posted on websites and created lots of interest.

Negotiating phase: Due to picking the proper price point, I had multiple offers on the boat. This is the best position possible for the seller as R skillfully negotiating & built value to my advantage. The result was a quick close and a higher price.

Overall one could not find a better, more trustworthy broker to work with. Boat brokers sometimes earn bad reputations, this is so not true here.

  • Thank you for helping us through this difficult time when my wife sustained a head injury during the process of selling our boat. We greatly appreciated how you handled the sale and went the extra mile to accommodate our needs. The presentation of our catamaran was outstanding with great video and photography.

  • Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Mark Outlaw for help with the delivery of my Catalina 445 sailboat. He helped sail my new boat from St Simon Island, Georgia to St. Petersburg, Florida approximately 600 nautical miles in seven days. We experienced many different sailing conditions in which his knowledge of boating and the local waters was invaluable. During our time together Mark was a true professional and instructed me in proper sail adjustment, docking, weather, tides, bridges and navigation. You can trust what he says to correctly and safely operate your boat. He is also very patient and understanding. I feel we have developed a relationship that extends past just the purchase and delivery of the boat but to an on going friendship. Thank you so much for being my mentor!

  • Thank you both for all that you have done to see us off on our dream. You’ve both been awesome! You’re the best brokers anywhere, you’ve gone above and beyond what any other broker should or would do. Thank you. We are lucky to have found you both. Cheers.

  • I have recently had the pleasure of selling my Lagoon 410 with you. The service,
enthusiasm and professionalism you demonstrated during the transaction was beyond my expectations
and I would, in fact already have, recommended his services to some of my best friends. The ease of the
selling process was in large part due to your diligence in communicating clearly and concisely with all
    parties involved in the transaction.
In my particular case you managed to have a signed contract within approximately 10 hours of us first
speaking on the phone, This is a record for me and I am sure it will be hard to beat.
My thanks and recommendations go to you and I hope that we may have the pleasure of doing
    business in the future.

  • Captain R, I wanted to thank you for your help in finding the right vessel for me. We have enjoyed the Beneteau 473 so much and I know that it was a fast and furious search and purchase. You and your team made it possible for me to get this and to then get my business going on this. I am including a few pictures but if you go to the Island Sailing facebook page you will see all of the pictures of the boat, including the weeks in the Abacos this summer! My brother-in-law who was with me when I first viewed the boat came along and can barely recognize it – new canvass dodger, bimini and covers from the old green to a nice tan with black accents, new black sacrificial on the sails, new marine latex mattresses throughout, new upholstery in the salon, new dinghy (the one that came with had a water leak in the RIB), removed the green accents on the topsides and waxed the hull, new running rigging and lots of little things to make her great. She sailed like a dream and handled the seas well – just a few spider cracks in the gel coat to deal with. We are planning on taking her to the Exumas next summer.

  • I just wanted to thank you for taking the time with me to find me the right boat at the right price. Dealing with you was absolutely wonderful. You are honest and up front. You gave me the risks and benefits. I would recommend you to anyone who is interested in purchasing a boat or hiring you as a captain.

  • We recommend Richard Fachtmann without any reservation. He treated us in a very professional manner. His customer service skills are excellent. He kept in touch throughout the entire process. We believe he went above and beyond what he was required to do. We would be happy to do business with him again.

  • For my recent sailboat purchase, Captain Richard Fachtmann was the broker. He performed as a professional throughout the process. Even though several complex issues arose, Richard’s experience and expertise made the purchase occur smoothly and in a timely manner. I recommend him and would use him again for a boat purchase.
